Stones to Rebuild Bayon Temple
Stones to Rebuild Bayon Temple
Even at the most famous temples there are stones laying around to rebuild walls and the like. I saw this at nearly every temple in Siem Reap.

At less famous one, there are whole buildings that are piles of carved stones obviously being collected to rebuild building, walls, archways, etc.. Mostly, I believe, the stones are put back together like puzzle pieces; using the original stones to rebuild. Though I also believe new stones were added where pieces seem to be missing.

Angkor Thom

Angkor Thom was established in the late 12th century by king Jayavarman VII. It covers an area of 9 kmĀ², including several monuments from earlier eras as well as those established by Jayavarman and his successors. At the centre of the city is Jayavarman's state temple, the Bayon, with the other major sites clustered around the Victory Square immediately to the north.

Angkor Thom is absolutely fantastic. Bayon temple is recognizable for all the huge faces carved all over the temple.
