I visited Costa Rica for 2 weeks in December 1996. Hiking in the parks and floating down rivers were great ways to get close to many different animals. Photos of some of the animals I photographed are shown here.

Photo of leaf cutter ants carrying their cut leaves to their nest. The ants don't eat the leaves: they use the leaves as fertilizer to grow a fungus that they eat.
